Your Safety is a Priority

It’s important to think about health and safety if you’re moving into a storage unit, take a look at our tips to keep you safe.

Dress correctly

It sounds obvious but wearing the right clothes for the job can protect your safety. Make sure you’re not wearing anything baggy that might get caught when you’re moving around your unit. Shoes are very important. If you have a lot to move make sure you’re wearing flat shoes with protection for your toes and good grip. Don’t go for flip flops or sandals!

Pack and lift correctly

Don’t overload your boxes, they should only contain the weight you can comfortably lift. You shouldn’t try to carry more than is safe, and don’t carry a stack of boxes that will obscure your view. When lifting bend at the knees not the waist to protect your back. Don’t try to throw items into your unit, place carefully.

Stack carefully

When stacking boxes ensure the heavy items are at the bottom then stack lighter objects on top. Don’t pile items higher than you can reach and don’t try to climb on a stack of boxes as they won’t take your weight. It’s a good idea to keep a clear path through your unit, and anything you might want to access more frequently should be stored at the front of the unit.

Drive slowly

Driving closer to your unit should be done very slowly, as people will be walking around the site. Go slowly and be extra vigilant when manoeuvring your vehicle.
